A group of individuals that were failed by the Constitution of 1787 were the women. I say this because their rights were greatly affected during this time period. One right that was taken advantage of by the states governments would be the right to vote. The Constitution never stated that women could or could not vote but it did say that men had the right to vote. Nearly all the people in the government were men so since they had the power to decide if women could vote they said that it was not allowed and since the Constitution already had stated that men had the right, they felt it was already established that women couldn’t. Women fought for their rights for many years but while doing so the government passed the 14th amendment, which denied the right for women to vote. In 1848 men gathered in town meetings to discuss the topic of how women’s rights were limited and how they could be improved. After years of fighting for women’s right to vote, Susan B. Anthony made an argument in a New York election that limiting women’s rights was not rational if the 15th amendment states that no one should be prevented from voting because of their race. Basically her argument asked why would gender matters if someone’s race doesn’t. By 1918 half of the states gave women the full or partial right to vote and a year later the 19th amendment passed which stated that “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” By that amendment a lot of rights were granted to woman all around America.
